Joseph L. Gehlhausen, 67, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 7:51 p.m. on Monday, May 26, 2014, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper, Indiana.Joe was born on February 24, 1947 in Huntingburg, Indiana to Irvin and Mary Agnes (Busam) Gehlhausen. He married Mary Lou Hohler on May 23, 1970 in Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.Joe retired from Jasper Engines and Transmissions.He graduated from the St. Meinrad Seminary High School in 1965 and was an Oblate at St. Placid Hall until 1966.He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper where he played the guitar and sang with the Seek the Lord” singers. He also entertained at local nursing homes with the group.He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and The Legion Riders. He served on the board of directors of Jasper Outdoor Recreation and was a member of the Jasper Gun Club. He called Bingo at the American Legion and played Santa at local nursing homes and the American Legion.He was a past assistant Boy Scout Leader for Holy Family Troop 185, and is a member of the “O’le Buzzard Patrol” at the Big Ben Scout Camp.He was the all time most winning competitor in the “Big Whopper Liars” contest at the Kuntzfest in New Harmony, Indiana.He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, camping, and riding his motorcycle.Joseph is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Gehlhausen of Jasper; one daughter, Teresa Giesler and her husband Mark, of Huntingburg; one son, Kevin Gehlhausen and his wife Veronica, of Jasper; two grandchildren, Gavin and Coty Giesler; mother, Mary Agnes Gehlhausen of Jasper; three sisters, Julia Thomas of Evansville, Karen Summers of Woodland Park, Colo., and Kathy Barth and her husband Jeff, of St. Anthony; one brother; Mark G. Gehlhausen and his wife Theresa, of Jasper.Preceding him in death was his father Irvin Gehlhausen and an sister Mary Terese Gehlhausen, who died in infancy.”
