ELDER, JOSEPH S., 87, of Louisville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Twinbrook Nursing Home.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky, he was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a graduate of St. Xavier High School and St. Mary’s College. Joe was a retired special agent from the Internal Revenue Service. He was an active member in St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church and parish as well as St. Vincent DePaul Society for many years.
Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who was selfless in putting other’s needs above his own. His deep faith in God was evident in the way he lived his life. He had a generous spirit and heart for the poor. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and ability to make people smile.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 13 siblings.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Mary Alma Goodin Elder; children, John Elder (Kathy), Donna Stickley (Randy), Tim Elder (Ann), Jennifer Lanham (Giles) and Nanci Overstreet (Steve); and 14 grandchildren, James, Ben, Wesley, Claire, Michael, Emma, Sarah, Graham, Samuel, Evelyn, Anna, Maris, Gabbi and Timothy.
