Kenneth Robert Cady was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 17, 1947. Looking at the weather for that day it was a scorcher, but Ken must have loved it as he chose to spend the last 20 years of his life in the heat!

Ken was number 5 of 8 children. He was preceded in death by his father Loren Vaughn Cady, and his mother Barbara Jane Hills Cady, as well as his sister Barbara Jr who died at birth. Ken is survived by his partner and spouse of over 40 years, David Tan, whom he married in 2012. Ken is also survived by his brothers Thomas Cady, Richard Cady and his spouse JoAnn Cady, as well as Terrence Cady and his spouse Roslynn Cady. Ken is also survived by his three sisters Joyce Cady Bonifield and her spouse Charles Bonifield, Kathy Cady Jackson and her spouse Tom Jackson and lastly sister Margaret Cady. He is also mourned by numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

Surrounded by so many siblings, Ken carved out his own unique path in life. Upon graduating from Latin School in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1965, Ken took a foray into the religious life, briefly residing at Saint Meinrad Seminary and studying for the priesthood. After a time, he changed course and completed his college education at Indiana University graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science in 1970, followed by a law degree obtained in 1974. Ken took to the law and loved practicing first at Butler, Brown and Hahn in Indianapolis, followed by a brief stint working for the Department of Energy and lastly many years in San Francisco as an assistant district attorney, where he thrived and met his lifelong love, David Tan. Due to health concerns, Ken retired from the District Attorney’s office in 1993.

Ken went on to live a happy life, finally healthy enough to travel the world. He unexpectedly passed on July 7th after a brief illness. Ken’s life was marked by success in his career, loyalty and love in his marriage, generosity to his family and friends, a contagious love of the Yankees and an enduring love of his Scottie dogs Lucy, Katie, Tanner and Kiwi.
