Max “Dave” David Smith, 83, of Wadesville, Indiana, peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.

Dave was born in Wallace, Indiana on January 6, 1938 to the late Max and Loraine (Louis) Smith. Growing up, Dave attended St. Benedict’s grade school and then St. Meinrad during his high school years. He went on to graduate from Evansville College with a Bachelor’s of Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Indian Industries as a compound bow designer and later retired as the Vice President of Engineering. Dave enjoyed reading, stamp collecting, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. He created works of art and invented many different games. He enjoyed hunting with compound bows that he designed. He enjoyed hiking and camping with his wife and family. Susie was the love of his life and he loved spending time with her and the family whenever possible. He was known to be an upstanding gentleman and quite funny even in his last days. He will be deeply missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Susan (Craig) Smith of Wadesville, IN; daughters, Kim Saddler (Kenny) of Newburgh, IN, Laura Schmahlenberger (Jason) of Wadesville, IN, Kristen Bomber (Phil) of Bargersville, IN, Angela Gebhardt (Kris) of Bloomington, IN, Terri Hadley (Russell) of Floyds Knobs, IN, and Connie Smith (Steve) of Evansville, IN; sons, Mark Bouchie (Sandy) and Steve Bouchie, both of Evansville, IN; brother, Michael Smith (Diane) of Louisville, KY; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ann Smith; and brother, Peter Smith.
