Myron R. Fischer, 81, Ferdinand, passed away at 5:25 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, at Scenic Hills Care Center in FerdinandHe was born in St. Meinrad on April 10, 1935, to Hilbert and Bernice M. (Gehlhausen) Fischer. He married Bernice Begle on May 10, 1958, in St. Henry Catholic Church in St. Henry.Surviving are his wife, Bernice Fischer; three sons, Randall L. Fischer of Ferdinand, Glenn Fischer of St. Meinrad and Stephen (DaNita) Fischer of Jackson, Mo.; two daughters, Sabrina (Deane) Verkamp of Ferdinand and Corine Kluemper of Evansville; a brother, Pat Fischer of Ferdinand; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a son, Chad Fischer; a daughter, Bernadette Fischer; and a sister, Bonnie Lou (Gary) Miller.Mr. Fischer was a 1953 graduate of Huntingburg High School in Huntingburg and served in the Indiana National Guard for eight years. He retired from Kimball International after 27 years as a finish inspector. He was a freelance outdoor writer for national publications such as Sports Afield, Outdoor Life, Field & Stream and Bowhunter Magazine. He also served as a regular columnist in Indiana Fins & Feathers magazine. An avid outdoorsman, he was one of the first successful bow hunters in Dubois County. He was a lifetime member of St. Ferdinand Parish and a member of St. Joseph Sodality. He was on the board of the Huntingburg Conservation Club and a member of the Ferdinand Community Center and Ferdinand Senior Citizens. His other hobbies included fishing, collecting fishing lures, traveling, writing poetry and reading.
