Tell City – Paul F. Horlander, Jr., 74, passed away on May 25, 2020, at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City, IN.

He was born in Tell City on November 5, 1945, son of the late Paul F. and Doretha (Arnold) Horlander. Paul was a devoted son and cared for his mother for many years.

Paul was a high-school graduate of St. Meinrad Seminary, attended college there, and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy from Pope Pius X College in Erlanger, KY. He taught grade school in Owensboro, KY, and then taught at Immaculate Conception Catholic Grade School in Hawesville, KY, where he was also Principal for several years. Later he worked at Ace’s Gun & Sporting Goods in Hawesville.

Paul was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church where he served Mass and was a Lector. He enjoyed fishing, especially participating in local fishing tournaments, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, IU basketball, and Tiger Woods play golf. He had the honor of being named a Kentucky Colonel.

Surviving are his brother Kenneth (Lynn) Horlander of Danville, IL, and his sister, Peg (Tyrus) McDaniel of Parrish, FL. He is also survived by his nephews Dr. Kenneth (Anna) Horlander of LaGrange, GA, Christopher (Leanor) Horlander of Murphy, TX, Daniel (Ada) Horlander of Tewksbury, MA, and his nieces Angie Horlander of Downer’s Grove, IL, Michele Croghan of Grove City, OH, and Karen (Richard) Pearson of Niceville, FL. He is also survived by his aunt, Alice Wittmer, of Tell City.

A special thank you to Hospice and the staff at Oakwood Health Campus for the loving care they gave to Paul during his illness.

Due to mandates concerning COVID-19, there will be no local services. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. A Celebration of Life for Paul will be held at a later date.
