Horne died at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. A graduate of St. Agnes Elementary School and Central Catholic High School, he served in the United States Air Force in Vietnam and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He went on to study at Mary Manse College and Owens Community College, where he received an Associate’s degree in Fire Science. He graduated from The University of Toledo with a Bachelor’s degree. He also studied at Harvard University. Paul joined the Toledo Fire Department in 1973, where he served at Stations 7, 16, 15, 13 and 21, and with the Fire Prevention Bureau. He retired in 1988 as a Lieutenant. As president of Firefighters Union Local 92, he fought for the minimum manning of 103, which he felt saved the lives of citizens and firefighters. He is survived by his sons, Matthew (Michelle) Horne and Zachary Horne; his six brothers, Mike (Jeanne) Horne, Tim (Pam) Horne, Pat Horne, Chris (Denise) Horne, Larry Horne, and Jack Horne; his two sisters, Martie (Don) Moline and Mary Beth (Denny) Shoemaker; as well as 26 nieces and nephews, and many grand-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Rita Horne, and his niece, Lauren Shoemaker. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make donations to Regina Coeli Catholic Church, Central Catholic High School, or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. immediately preceding the Mass at Regina Coeli Catholic Church.
