Paul is remembered fondly for his big heart, keen intelligence, avid curiosity and irreverent wit. His humility and bravery were punctuated by his infectious laughter, which was also healing. He displayed remarkable grace despite physical limitations due to disease.PaulÆs passions included: literature, nature, steam locomotives, fly-fishing on mountain lakes and streams, and the freedom of riding his beloved motorcycles.Born in Toledo, Ohio, Paul attended school in Toledo, St. Meinrad, Indiana (MA), Cincinnati (MEd in English), and Athens, Ohio (MA and PhD in clinical psychology).Paul taught high school English in Cincinnati. After completing an internship at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Vancouver Washington, he was a clinical psychologist in Alamosa, Colorado, Portland and Salem, Oregon.In 1967, Paul married Diane Angle, with whom he had three children: Lisa, Andrea and Jonathan.Paul married Sue Sullivan in 1986.He is survived by his wife Sue Sullivan Rethinger of Tigard Oregon, daughter Andrea Rethinger of North Olmsted, Ohio, Jonathan (Trisha) Rethinger of Thornton, Colorado, sisters Mary Agnes Welch of Sandusky, Ohio and Alice (Dick) Watson of Fremont, Ohio; grandchildren Savanna & Logan Glasheen of Sturbridge, Massachusetts; Ashtynn and Cosette Rethinger of Thornton, Colorado; son-in-law John Glasheen of Sturbridge, Massachusetts and former wife Diane Rethinger of North Olmsted, Ohio. His daughter Lisa Glasheen, his parents, a sister who died in infancy, and brothers James and Father Omer Rethinger predeceased Paul.
