Paul Stephen Petrig of San Diego, CA died peacefully at the age of 73 on October 20, 2018. The fifth of eight children, Paul was born on February 15, 1945 in Evansville, Indiana to Herman Joseph (Joe) Petrig and Irene Louise (Scheu) Petrig. Paul enjoyed being part of a large family and was, like all his brothers and sisters, born at home. He attended Corpus Christi School and was the first altar boy and only boy in the first graduating class. He attended St. Meinrad Seminary, graduated from Mater Dei in 1963, and graduated from the Benedictine University in 1967. He joined the US Navy and became a fighter pilot serving in the Vietnam War. After serving his country, he went to work for PPG managing IT systems, eventually moving to Pittsburgh, PA, where he retired from PPG. In retirement, Paul enjoyed his grandchildren, motorcycle riding, and traveling. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister Stephanie, younger brother Mark Allen and older sister Mary Ann (Petrig) Lasher. Paul is survived by his daughter Heather (Petrig) Rekalske and son Jason Petrig (Erin) and five grandchildren: Zachary Staebler, Benjamin Staebler, Beth Staebler, Tabatha Petrig and Phoebe Petrig. He is also survived by his brothers, Joseph (Esther), John (Margaret), Robert (Ethelene), and Michael (Nancy), and many nieces and nephews.
