Raymond C. Strange, age 84, a former resident of Shoals, passed away on November 5, 2013, in Los Angeles, California. He was born April 17, 1929, to the late Hugh and Freda Strange. He was the oldest of seven children and lived most of his childhood in Bramble, Indiana. As a young man, Mr. Strange attended Saint Meinrad Seminary and went on to become a priest. His first mass was at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Bramble, in 1955. After decades of service he left the Catholic Church and later started a family. His charitable nature became more focused on serving the needs of children. He began a new career with social services and helped many in need – first as a foster parent and eventually as the Welfare Director of Martin County, Indiana. Even in retirement, Mr. Strange continued to be involved in community service through the organization Americorps. Survivors include his wife, Diane Strange, of Pasadena, California; and children, Nathan Strange, of La Crescenta, California; and Sarah Harding, of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; six grandchildren; and five siblings, Jerry Strange, Jim Strange, Judy Brothers, Jane Hunter, and Susan Wood. He was also preceded in death by one brother, David Strange.
