Evansville – Robert “Bob” Bernard Vollmer, 88, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2020 with his family by his side.

Bob was born on June 20, 1931 in Jasper, Indiana to the late Theresia Rees and Anton Vollmer.

He moved to Evansville after high school where he met and married his wife. He earned an Associate and Bachelor degree from Brescia University and later earned his Master’s degree from Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. Bob was co-owner of Ellsperman Schwartz Flowers and also served as a Pastoral Associate for St. John the Evangelist Church in Daylight.

Bob had many titles and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, mentor, role model, and more recently, the “Mayor of Pine Haven”. He loved to pretend to be the Grinch, but he truly always had a smile, a joke, or a word of encouragement for those around him. He loved to spend time with his family, lead prayers, and make toasts with a beer or whiskey in his hand. He had a heart larger than life and made sure to loudly announce how proud he was of those he loved. He will be incredibly missed.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Theresia and Anton, and three siblings; Roman, Ambrose, and Justine Vollmer.

He leaves his wife of 63 years, Carolyn (Schwartz) Vollmer; a brother and sister, Thomas Vollmer and Joan Pfister; and his six children: Kim (Ron) Willenborg, Ann (Larry) Feldhaus, Vicki (Kevin) Kannmacher, Michelle (Mark) Drury, Steve (Tina) Vollmer, and Timothy (Susan) Vollmer. He leaves 12 grandchildren: Alyssa (Josh) Gilmore, Aaron Feldhaus, Drew (Amber) Willenborg, Samantha and Chris Kannmacher, Rachel Drury, Daniel, Abigail, and Amanda Vollmer, and Ethan, Jerad, and Connor Vollmer. He also leaves 3 great grandchildren: Rainer, Lilah, and Jovie Gilmore.

Bob’s family would like to thank Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center and Heritage Hospice for their wonderful care. We are grateful for the compassion and kindness of all their staff.

Visitation for Bob will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at 9:00am followed by a funeral mass at 10:00am. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Hospice or St. Boniface Parish.
