Robert J. Beckman, 84, of Jasper, passed away at 11:02 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at his home.

He was born on September 7, 1934, in Jasper to O. Leo and Roselyn (Thyen) Beckman. He married “Marge” Margaret L. Mehringer on February 4, 1984.

He was a graduate of Jasper High Class 1952. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving from 1953 to 1957 during the Korean War serving in Quam. He had a career in finance, working at the German American Bank in Jasper for many years, Liberty Building & Loan Association in Jasper and Trust Officer at National Bank & Trust in Wilmington, Ohio.  He spent is retirement years working at the Jasper Municipal Golf Course and the Ruxer Golf Course in Jasper and also worked at Jasper Walmart.

Both Marge and Robert Beckman were recipients of the Simon Brute Award.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as lector and adult server, Past Grand Knight and Fourth Degree member of the Jasper Knights of Columbus Council # 1584 and member of the American Legion Post #147 in Jasper.

He was a member of the forming committee of Precious Blood Catholic Church and sang in Precious Blood Choir.  He loved to sing and dance and was a member of  a Barbershop Quartet.  He loved the outdoorsand deer hunting in Upper Peninsula in Michigan.

He was avid golfer, watched College basketball and NASCAR was a Mechanic for Carl Gehlhasuen Racing team.

Robert is survived by his wife, Marge Beckman; children of Martha Huther Ferreti Beckman are Lisa Mihalyi (Rob), Hamilton Township, New Jersey, Laura LeClere, Jasper; son, Greg Beckman (Sue), Hamilton, New Jersey; two stepdaughters, Alesia Cato (Eric) Evansville, and Andrea Dwyer, Washington; several grandchildren and stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jane Chappell (John), Jasper, and Mary Beth “Becky” Beckman, Jasper; and five brothers, David Beckman (Geraldine), Louisville, Kentucky, Richard Beckman (Linda) Henderson, Nevada; Bill Beckman (Martha), Denver, Colorado; Daniel Beckman (Rose), Greenville, South Carolina, and Steve Beckman (Terri), Jasper.

Preceding him in death are one son Brian Beckman; brother, Jerry Beckman; and a sister, Kathleen Seufert, and brother-in-law, Wayne Seufert.
