Robert T. “Bob” Hughes, age 74, of Erie, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013, at UPMC Hamot.Robert was born in Akron, Ohio, May 5, 1938, a son of the late Edgar and Jane Brennan Hughes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a graduate of Ohio State School of Broadcasting. Robert began his career in news casting at the WMGW radio station in Meadville. He was the News Director for WRIE Radio from 1969 thru 1985. Later, he was a part time News Director at WJET. Robert was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at daily masses. He was also a Eucharistic Minister at St. Vincent Health Center, as well as being a Redcoat volunteer there. He was a volunteer at Emmaus Soup Kitchen, Meals on Wheels, the Erie Hot Line and various nursing homes. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Roy A. Hughes in 2002, and his brother, Richard Hughes. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Geraldine Pruskowski Hughes, and five grandchildren: Jordan Hughes and Emma Hughes of Portland, Oregon, Samuel Hughes of Erie, Moriah Hughes of Harrisburg, and Ruby Hughes of Erie. Two nieces and one nephew also survive. Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard, Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until prayers at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament Church at 11:00 o’clock.
