Sister Norma Rosa Garcia, age 84 passed away into the arms of God on December 23, 2013 at The Village at Incarnate Word, San Antonio, Texas. She was born in Eagle Pass, Texas, to Frank and Alma Garcia. Sister Norma Rosa attended St. Joseph’s Academy and Eagle Pass High School graduating in 1946 as class Valedictorian. Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word a few months later, professing her perpetual vows in 1954. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts from Incarnate Word College, (UIW). Sister Norma Rosa served in the Congregation’s educational ministries as principal for 24 years. Sister served on the national Board of Trustees of Father Flanagan’s Boys Town based in Omaha, Nebraska and was instrumental in bringing a mini-campus of Boys Town to San Antonio. Sister also served on several local Boards. Sister also started an organization for dropouts called Partnership for Maximum Growth, Inc. During some of her summer vacations, she worked with migrants in various states. Sister traveled extensively with her only sister, Ms. Alma T. Garcia. Sister Norma Rosa is survived and dearly missed by her loving sister, Alma Garcia, numerous cousins and by her Sisters in Christ.
