Sister Marjorie (Rose) Hill, OSB St. Joseph, Minn.August 7, 1943 G╟⌠ June 13, 2013The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the Sacred Heart Chapel, Saint Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph, for Sister Marjorie (Rose) Hill, who died, age 69, on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Saint Scholastica Convent, St. Cloud, Minn. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery. Friends may call at Saint Scholastica Convent on Monday, June 17, 2013, from 1-6 p.m. or for a Vigil Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Saint Benedict’s Monastery. Visitation continues at 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral.Sister Marjorie was born August 7, 1943, to Andrew and Luetta (Fisher) Hill in Durand, Wis., the oldest of four girls. She attended St. John the Baptist Grade School and Plum City High School in Plum City, Wis. Following a year at Wisconsin State College, she entered Saint Bede Monastery on December 8, 1962. She was received into the novitiate in June, 1963, made first monastic profession on July 11, 1964, and perpetual monastic profession on July 11, 1967.S. Marjorie earned a B.A. degree in elementary education with a minor in social science from the College of Saint Benedict, St. Joseph, Minn., and an M.A. in Religious Education from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mich. She also attended the College of Saint Scholastica, Duluth, Minn.; Viterbo College, LaCrosse, Wis.; Saint Meinrad School of Theology, St. Meinrad, Ind; Winona State University, Winona, Minn., and University of Wisconsin, River Falls, Wis.Sister Marjorie was an educator in elementary schools for forty years. She taught at St. Patrick’s, Onalaska, Wis.; St. Mary’s, Richland Center, Wis.; St. Thomas More, La Crosse, Wis.; Immaculate Conception, Eau Claire, Wis. She taught and was principal at St. Francis, Ellsworth, Wis. and St. Joseph School in Cadott, Wis., and was coordinator of religious education for four years at St. Raymond of Penafort in Fall Creek, Wis.In 2010, Saint Bede Monastery merged with Saint Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph, Minn. At this time, S. Marjorie moved to Saint Benedict’s Monastery where she continued her ministry of prayer and community living, and assisted in monastic services. S. Marjorie had a love of flowers, reading and music; she played the piano and organ. S. Marjorie is survived by members of her Benedictine community, one sister, Patricia Miller, of Durand, Wis., nephews and a niece. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Virginia Hill and Lucy Hill.
