Sr. Mary Christine Hurst S.S.C.M., 90, died at the Sisters Infirmary of Provena St. Mary’s Hospital.Sr. Mary retired from service at St. Mary’s Community in July 2005. She had taught at Holy Family Academy in Beaverville, St. Gall’s in Chicago, Our Lady Academy in Manteno, where she had also been principal, and St. Patrick Academy in Momence. She was secretary to the Provincial Superior and the provincial archivist for the Servants of the Holy Heart of Mary. She was foundress and principal of St. Alphonsus Community in Brooklyn Center, Minn. She was born April 14, 1916, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Ernest E. and Rosilda Fontaine Hurst. She entered the Servants of the Holy Heart of Mary Sept. 4, 1933 and professed her final vows March 19, 1942. She received bachelor of science degrees from the University of Montreal, Montreal, Canada, and DePaul University, Chicago; and a master of science degree from the University of Notre Dame.Surviving are one sister, Catherine Beckerle of St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews.One brother, John Hurst, is deceased.
