Vernon LeRoy Center, age 70, of Walkerton, passed away on Sunday, May 26th, 2013, in his home. Mr. Center was born on May 26th, 1943, in Laporte, to Edward and Hilda (Peterson) Center. Vernon was a lifelong Walkerton resident, a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Moose Lodge, Walkerton Odd Fellows Lodge and the American Legion, and attended Saint Meinrad Seminary. Mr. Center was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Edward, and sister, Theresa. He is survived by his brother, Damon Center; and sister, Sheila Scott; two sons, John Center and Jeff Center; 6 grandchildren; and his ex-wife, JoAnne Samuelson. Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 30th, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. in the Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home, 408 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton, with Father Michael Heimer. Cremation to follow. Ash burial with military honors will take place at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. There will be a visitation on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of the services. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Vernon are being accepted by the family to help with funeral expenses.Published in South Bend Tribune on May 29, 2013
