Walt Beyer, age 89, passed peacefully on February 2, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn Lou (Bowman) Beyer, Walt was one of 10 children, born in August 1925 in Shelbyville, IN, to John and Bertha Beyer. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Frieda, his children Kandi, Kevin, Kris, Kerry, granddaughter Julia, and siblings Jim, Norma, and Lizzy.A veteran of WWII, Walt enlisted in the US Army Air Corps, serving as a navigator. During his service, he took up boxing, winning several title bouts, even defeating a world champion opponent. Completing his Bachelor’s degree from Butler University within 2 years, Walt built his 38 year career with Shell Oil as Manager of Property Tax, serving 2 terms as President of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation. Walt spent his retirement years pursuing his passion for hunting, fishing, cooking, and golf. His favorite place was his ranch in central Texas, where he farmed, raised cattle, and admired deer and wildlife. He loved to entertain, argue politics, and tell stories. Always with a dazzling smile and a glimmer in his eyes, Walt’s charisma and charm endeared him to all who knew him. He was a man of character and principles, and had an immeasurable love for his family. He will be deeply missed and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
