William J. McGill, 58, died March 31, 2005, at his home in Covington, WA, after a short illness. Bill was born on June 10, 1946, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Dorothy McGill (Mueller) and William R. McGill. He attended high school at Saint Meinrad Archabbey, St. Meinrad, IN, graduated from Penn State University Capitol Campus, Middletown, PA, and received his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL.
Bill met Coleen Jarrett in their hometown of Pittsburgh, and they married on December 27, 1971. Bill and Coleen were blessed with 33 years of marriage and enjoyed the many places they lived during those years, along with the good friends they made all across the United States. During his 34-year tenure in public administration, Bill worked as either Assistant City Manager or City Manager in diverse communities nationwide, including Richton Park, IL; North Miami Beach, FL; Upper Arlington, OH; and Billings, MT. Bill ended his career as Director of Information and Administrative Services for the City of Issaquah, WA. At each location, Bill’s dedication and vision contributed to a more efficient and effective local government, and, in 1999, he was honored as the recipient of the Assistant Excellence in Leadership Award, given by the International City Managers Association.
Bill is survived by his wife, Coleen; son, Sgt. Kevin (Meg) McGill of Clarksville, TN; daughter Katie (Cody) Stanley of Geronimo, TX and Megan McGill of Covington, WA; honorary son Norihiro (Hiroko) Haraguchi of Nagano, Japan; his father William R. (Joanne) McGill of Lake Placid, FL; sisters Mary Kay (Richard) Fink of Tampa, FL, and Jean McGill of Boca Raton, FL; his loving grandchildren: Audrey, Connor and Grant McGill, and Paul and Benton Stanley, and many nieces and nephews.
